New Zealand's Borders are Re-Opening.

Here's what you need to know.

As of early 2022 New Zealands borders will begin to re-open in stages, firstly to citizens & residents, then international tourists. Here are the major takeaways from the governments announcement:

Kiwis Travelling Overseas

As of January 17th NZ citizens & residents returning from Australia will no longer have to isolate in MIQ.
As of February 14th Kiwis returning from all other countries (apart from those deemed Very High-Risk) will no longer have to isolate in MIQ.

All vaccinated returning NZ citizens & residents will have to isolate at home for 7 days and provide a negative test before entering the community.

Countries will be released in stages and will be grouped into different levels of risk, but for now only Papua New Guinea is deemed "very high risk". Fully vaccinated Kiwis returning from "very high risk" countries will be require a 7 day stay in managed Isolation.

Foreign Tourists Coming to NZ

Fully vaccinated foreign nationals will be able to enter New Zealand without a stay in MIQ from April 30th and self isolate in a Hotel or holiday rental for 7 days and provide a negative test before entering the community.

Self Isolation

Self Isolation can be in your home, a rental or a hotel. If you live with others they do not have to self-isolate and can go to work etc, however social distancing is encouraged. You cannot leave your self  isolation unless it is an Emergancy and once completed you must return a negative test before entering the community.

More information on pre-departure testing.

Unvaccinated

NZ Citizens that choose not to be vaccinated will be required to spend 7 days in managed isolation and provide a negative test before entering the community.
