HOW DOES NZ FLIGHT CLUB FIND NEW ZEALANDS CHEAPEST FLIGHTS?
It's important to realise that Airline pricing is incredibly complicated and flight prices are constantly changing, so airlines can maximise their profit on each flight. Prices on the same flight can vary hundreds of dollars each day due to many reasons, with the main factors being occupancy rates of the flight vs. the time until the flight departs. For example, If a flight is selling up quickly for an unforeseen reason, such as a Bruce Springsteen concert is bringing a lot of old rockers to town, then the airline algorithm will realise there is a demand and the prices will climb up, knowing that people will buy tickets to fly and see "the Boss" regardless.
However this also works the other way, June is usually a busy time to visit Queenstown for ski season, so the airline will account for this and schedule extra flights. If one year the snow is yet to turn up one year then these flights will be far emptier than usual. To encourage people to fill these seats then the airline algorithm will initiate a completely unadvertised sale anywhere from 20 - 90% to get these flights back on track.
